Peace of Mind Dressage — Guiding dressage journeys

Boarding through POM at Woodvale Farms

Tue Aug 12, 2014

Our motto:  Peace Of Mind is Priceless.  After many years caring for horses and boarding, we have a number of services to offer our customers which will allow them to sleep better at night.  We have learned the importance of observation and communication when it comes to horse care.  POM’s commitment to service will include a documented communication log for our staff members to keep track of any changes in the horse’s health, schedule, feed, turn-out, medications, and work load.  Shift change communication and meetings are mandatory for our staff members and will include the status of the hooves, eyes, eating, and behavior of all horses.  Our staff members live on campus giving them a convenient access to the horses 24/7.  Horses will benefit from customized feeding and turn-out programs.  Working with owners to establish the best schedule, weight, and care for each horse is paramount, you won’t be told that you don’t know what your horse needs.  New fencing and auto-matic waterers keep horses safe and happy in turn-out.  Stalls have been approved for safety by the equine standards published in 2013.  Our indoor footing is maintained on a daily basis with the best technology in dragging and moisture control.  Our indoor watering system is self-draining and works year round to control dust.  150 acres of property provides fields and trails as well as an on site pond stocked with Bass for fishing.  For farrier work, veterinary care, and chiropractic maintenance, Jaclyn chooses to work with a small group professionals who offer an elite skill level having focused their careers on performance horses.  With many renovations and improvements scheduled for the campus over the next two weeks we hope to create a comfortable and safe environment for people to learn and spend time.  We want all of our students and horses to feel like this is their home.  Our on campus events will begin in October with a clinic, Adult Camp, and Open House.  We will continue to open our campus to the community for clinics, shows, and events.  Your interest and questions are welcome.  We have some availability for September.  Check us out and we hope you decide to join our team.

I enjoyed a gorgeous evening on Saturday with many members of our team (but not all) at Mimi and David’s house for our 2nd Annual POM Party.  Thank you for coming Jane, Rob, Marie, Mike, Linda, John, Marguerite, Phil, Kara, and Randy (on FaceTime).  Everyone brought a special dish to share.  David made purple cocktails.  Marie made unforgettable cookies and promised to hold a cookie making class.  We talked about getting fit, dogs, travel, and horses of course.  Though there were no horses in the room, I managed to have a good time.  A great time!  Thank you Mimi and David for hosting.  Attached is a photo of our dinner.

Our Nicholas Fyffe Clinic served as another great educational experience.  We look forward to continuing to schedule these events on a monthly basis for as long as the weather allows.

Happy Birthday to Adele this week!

Recent Good News- Danika Steppe was given a clean bill of health to begin back in work and turn-out by Dr Cooper Williams.  I admire Paul and Carolyn for remaining patient and positive during Danika’s lay-up.  Their consistent attention and care ensured the best possible recovery for Danika.

Save the date for our Barn Open House on October 25-26.  We are locking down the details.  But, rumor has it that Betsy Steiner is coming!  We are also planning a weekend long Adult Camp full of learning opportunities.  All are welcome to attend.

If you have not already done so please sign up to audit or volunteer at PVDA’s Fall Symposium, “A System that Simplifies” with Nicholas Fyffe on September 6-7.  Both days include lunch and Saturday will include a Q & A with Nicholas.  The format of this event is designed to benefit both the riders and audience.  The location is beautiful, a must see, and lunch is catered.  Follow the link to sign up:

POM Opens for Boarding and Training at Woodvale Farms in Frederick, MD

Mon Aug 11, 2014

Jaclyn is a resident of Frederick, MD, living with her husband and two dogs only ten minutes from the Woodvale campus. In 2009, Jaclyn relocated from NJ to MD and since that time she has devoted herself to the horse community becoming an integral and active member. In addition to teaching and training, Jaclyn is a judge, event planner, competitor, and connoisseur of all things horsey. This includes horse shows in Germany, horse shopping in Portugal, horse riding in Mexico, and locally at hunt races and polo matches. She looks forward to developing the Woodvale campus into a diversified destination for horse enthusiasts to learn, compete, and enjoy.

On campus at Woodvale Jaclyn offers boarding at two levels with a total of 26 stalls under her management, training for equine athletes, coaching for dressage riders at any level, and trailer-in lessons. Horses boarding at Woodvale through POM will benefit from Jaclyn’s communication systems, attention to detail, and carefully chosen professional staff members. For farrier work, veterinary care, and chiropractic maintenance, Jaclyn chooses to work with a small group professionals who offer an elite skill level having focused their careers on performance horses.

In order to address the technical aspects of teaching and training Jaclyn spent years studying with Grand Prix dressage trainers, training horses from scratch, judging, and competing. Her education on all aspects of riding and horse care began at age 10 with serious dedication and continues to today. Jaclyn attends symposiums, clinics, lessons, and workshops regularly and with an open mind, adding to her toolbox and bringing energy and inspiration back home. In the last three years Jaclyn has participated in clinics with Lars Peterson, Bent Jensen, Linda Zang, Scott Hassler, Dr Jenny Susser and attended many other educational seminars and events. In 2013 alone Jaclyn rode with Kathy Connelly, Nicholas Fyffe, Lauren Sprieser, and Shannon Dueck.

Bringing the best and most relevant methods to her work is a priority. This training extends beyond dressage training to Jaclyn’s avid consumption of psychology, yoga, self-help, meditation, and LIFE! You will find all of these modalities supported on campus at Woodvale.

Welcome back to all of our POM vacationers!  I am looking forward to seeing everyone back in the saddle today and bringing the Zen “beginner’s mind” to each ride.  Allow yourself to learn to ride as if you are riding for the first time.

Over the weekend I visited horses in Canada and VT looking for the perfect dressage partner for Adele.  I always enjoy the exposure to different equestrian cultures, barns, and horses.  I also missed our horses and the familiar feeling of getting in the saddle on a horse that I have trained.  We are lucky to have such a talented and willing group of horses.  I have to say, it was so hard to eat delicious food and enjoy the amazing views of Vermont…not!  Thank you Adele for your hospitality.

On Sunday we sent one of our War Horses off to his new home.  Harry’s enduring spirit and love for work was incredible.  Every time I rode him down centerline he perked up and gave 100%.  We wish him and his new owner the best on their lower level dressage journey.

Update on Woodvale Farms:  Last week I met with Mike, the owner of Woodvale to discuss our plans to improve the facilities there.  While I am most excited to build our community there and expand the services of our training programs and care, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to add loving touches and make it home.

July 6-7 we welcome Nicholas Fyffe to Pleasant Ridge Farm.  Here is an article about our clinician:

Get well soon to Paul Steppe our greatest cheerleader!

One of our POMers has several hidden talents!  Good luck Marie the builder at her new farm.
